A conscious parent differs in many ways from someone following traditional parenting. Here are many ways this is true:
Conscious Parenting
Needs-based of child + parent.
Not fear-based, no threats stemmed from parental fear.
The relationship between the child and parent is connection based.
Parental evolution which frees the child.
Not achievement focused ie. grades, sport.
Non-competitive.
Democratic.
Flow and ease.
Natural consequences not imposed consequences.
No punishment. No harsh discipline.
No shaming or guilting.
The child is a sovereign spirit.
Parenting is a journey.
No strategies or gimmicks.
No fixing or managing a "problem".
Listening.
From the heart.
Both child and parents are teachers.
Children know.
Traditional Parenting
Outcome-based.
Behaviour-based.
Fear-based.
Control-based.
Child-focused, "Fix the child".
Achievement. Rewards.
Competitive.
Authoritarian.
Rules and order are set by parents.
Arbitrary, parental consequences.
Punitive yelling, shaming, guilting.
The parent is sovereign over the child.
Parenting is a task.
Filled with strategies and gimmicks.
Fixing, managing, and controlling.
Commanding.
Living in the mind, not in the heart.
Parents are the teacher.
Parents know more.
Conscious parenting is a paradigm that really flips traditional parenting on the head. However, some of these comparisons may be challenging to you. Please reach out so we can have an obligation-free chat about anything that has arisen at this moment.
